I’ve found creating a Mantra to be helpful when I’m feeling overwhelmed, stressed or anxious. Training our mind to see the positive in a difficult situation or reminding ourselves that “this too shall pass" isn’t easy and may be very difficult for some of us. It certainly can be for me. This is why I’ve made it a habit to repeat a mantra. My favorites are on rotation based on what type of situation I find myself in. Personally for me attending my son’s or stepchildren’s extracurricular activities gives me heightened anxiety. I don’t like conflict or confrontation not that this typically occurs but I try to calm myself down with deep breaths, repeating “Everything will be ok” and imagining everyone walking back to their own cars with smiles.
A mantra needs to become a habit which of course takes time. There are several great ways to remind you of your mantra. You could rock a bracelet, write it down on a post it note to hang on your computer monitor or for me I have it on my phone as a background. Use it however it works best for you, but definitely take the time to create a mantra.
